Stratasys Helps Girl Lift Arms, Play for First Time

Stratasys, a Minneapolis-based manufacturer, was featured in national media recently for its role in assisting 4-year-old Emma Lavelle move her arms for the first time.

Using a Dimension 3D printer, researchers at the Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children, Philadelphia, PA, were able to create what Emma calls her "magic arms." The device, known as WREX, is a custom-designed robotic exoskeleton that enables the girl to conquer greatly limited joint mobility and underdeveloped muscles, a congenital disorder that until now prevented her from using her arms.
