A multimillion-dollar expansion at Falcon Plastics, Inc., Brookings, South Dakota, will nearly double space at the company's Brookings East plant.

Falcon Plastics, Inc., Brookings, South Dakota, is nearing completion of multi-million-dollar expansion at its Brookings East plant.

The company started the 60,000-square-foot expansion in November 2013, but a harsh winter the following year slowed the project. In January, the exterior was finished and work began on the interior portion of the expansion. Once complete, manufacturing space will be nearly double what it was previously.

Due to the additional manufacturing space – about a $6- to $7-million investment, said Jay Bender, president of Falcon Plastics – the facility has purchased a new chiller system with 120-ton chilled and 540-ton cooling tower capacity. A new air compressor and new material handling system have been added to support 31 injection molding machines. The current 5-ton and 15-ton crane system has been extended from the existing building into the new addition.

There is currently one injection molding machine in operation in the new addition with plans to move an additional 10 existing injection molding machines. In the last year the facility has purchased two new Toshiba 610 Electric injection molding machines.

Along with manufacturing space, the break room and quality assurance lab have both increased in size due to the addition. For more information, visit www.falconplastics.com.
