Manufacturers Association of Plastics Processors (MAPP) was started in August 1996 as a not-for-profit trade association - by processors, for processors. MAPP now has over 1,000 industry executives in member companies actively benchmarking to improve their operations and communicating with one another to solve individual problems.

Alan Rothenbuecher, partner at Ice Miller LLP, Cleveland, OH

MAPP Member Since: 2005

Industries served: Ice Miller serves the entire plastics industry, from mold builder to supplier to processor and packager, in fields including automotive, retail, food and beverage and health care.

How did you become involved with the MAPP organization?

I met Troy Nix at a Plastics News Executive Forum in Arizona in the early 2000s. We discussed synergies between our organizations and, at some point, discussed combining forces to increase value for MAPP members. That led to the development of a legal resources program specially developed for MAPP members in 2005 and to my election to the Board in 2009.

As a member of MAPP, I have been a frequent speaker on hot topics facing the industry, including terms and conditions, force majeure clauses, risk management, social media in the workplace, succession planning, OSHA compliance and protecting intellectual property.

Describe Ice Miller and the services it can provide to processors.

Ice Miller provides practical, comprehensive advice and legal services to plastics industry businesses throughout the nation. From labor and employment to corporate counseling, creditor rights and patent protection, our plastics industry clients receive advice tailored to their specific needs and business on a fixed fee basis.

We call upon our years of experience and extensive knowledge of the plastics industry, the technologies used by industry members and the issues and challenges faced by plastics companies to better understand our clients’ needs and to help them achieve their goals. This commitment includes serving on trade association boards and developing legal resource programs tailored specifically to industry trends.

In what areas are you willing to share your experiences with MAPP Member companies?

I am willing to share trends and issues that our company sees within the industry to help MAPP member companies implement the best practices that they need to proactively address these challenges.
